Post Election Statement
It has been quite a learning experience to participate in the 2007
election. Although the final numbers were not what we hoped for, we ended with 27% of the vote (over 13,000 votes). I've been told that
is a decent showing and am grateful to all those who voted and made their voices heard.
Regardless of official positions, I am already back to work with
groups that are interested in Tucson's sustainability. I encourage you to continue to be involved and join together by working in our
community to make Tucson a better place for our children and grandchildren.
Thank you for your support

For far too long, the citizens in Ward 1
have had to go to other council offices to have their voices heard.
Beryl Baker will be available not only to her constituents, but also
to all the citizens in the community. Beryl
has been active in Tucson’s community issues for over 20 years.
She has delivered great things as a volunteer and activist for local
issues like water, land conservation, fair taxes, and animal protection.
Beryl wants to find new ways to resolve the issues that have been troubling
Ward One.
-
Community transportation- improving the effectiveness
of the bus system- Beryl wants to look into innovative ideas to add more
stops and make buses more accessible to greater number of residents.
-
Rio Nuevo building and contracting going to firms
outside of Tucson -Beryl wants to see Tucson's best and brightest
getting the jobs that our tax dollars are paying for.
-
Funding for safety, Police, and Fire Department-
right now the garbage tax is paying for essential public services.
Other resources like recycling revenue, state and federal funds, and tax
deductible donations should be used to augment the safety of our
community.
-
Respect for diversity- Beryl believes that no group,
religion, race, or ethnicity should be entitled to oppress or degrade
other groups. We are equals and should have equal rights, opportunities and privileges.
-
Community involvement in City issues- recently
neighborhood consultations between leaders and the Mayor were curbed.
Beryl believes that each member of the community deserves the right to
be involved in resolving the issues that will effect their homes,
business, lives, and children.
Beryl supports Tucson’s
Water Bill of Rights, Proposition 200, bringing water issues back to voters.
Support this initiative on the November 6th General
Election Ballot.
